The Fourteenth Goldfish by Jennifer L. Holm
(Iowa Children's Choice nominee 2016-17)
Eleven-year-old Ellie has never liked change. She misses fifth grade. She misses her old best friend. She even misses her dearly departed goldfish. Then one day a strange boy shows up. He’s bossy. He’s cranky. And weirdly enough . . . he looks a lot like Ellie’s grandfather, a scientist who’s always been slightly obsessed with immortality. Could this gawky teenager really be Grandpa Melvin? Has he finally found the secret to eternal youth?
My 25 cents...I really liked this book! I am not normally a fan of fantasy/sci-fi kinds of books, but this one grabbed me. I think I liked the thought of going to school with my grandpa?! What would THAT be like? Ellie learns a lot of things during this experience, but also have the chance to teach her own grandfather a few things as well! It left me wondering...will there be another book to carry on the story?!
